Exclusive cyber crime cells for North zone of TN

CHENNAI: With a view to curbing cyber crimes, police in the north zone of Tamil Nadu are all set to get an exclusive cyber wing in each of the six northern districts.
Inaugurating the three-day training on ‘Cyber Crime Investigation and Cyber Forensics’ for 36 police personnel from the six districts of Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Cuddalore and Villupuram on Sunday at the office of the north zone, Inspector General of Police, C Sylendra Babu, IG, North Zone, said there were 2,100 cases, including murder, murder for gain and kidnap last year, that were detected with the help of the cyber cell. “With the development of technology, crimes have also increased. There were many complaints on online lottery, online job offers, obscene messages sent to women that have created issues within the family and bomb threats over phone,” he said.
Six skilled police personnel were chosen from the six districts of the North Zone and will be trained by experts from the Cyber Society of India and NASSCOM for three days. They will later be posted with the cyber cell that will be set up in the office of the superintendent of police of the six districts. Each of the cyber cells will be headed by a DSP. “Cyber crime-related complaints can be made at the respective police station and the cyber cell will assist in detecting it,” the IG added.
