Pakistan-Based HUJI Claims Responsibility For New Delhi Terrorist Attack

(RTTNews) - India's National Investigative Agency(NIA), probing the New Delhi terrorist attack, has said it is looking into the authenticity of an email sent by the outlawed South Asian militant group Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami (HUJI) claiming responsibility for the bomb explosion.
In the email, HUJI threatened to attack major high courts and the Supreme Court of India if the government does not meet its demand to immediately repeal the death sentence of 2001 parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
Pakistan-based HUJI has also a branch in Bangladesh.
Indian home ministry has issued a nationwide alert in the wake of the terrorist attack that shook the country's capital on Wednesday. All states have been urged to step up vigil and take precautionary measures.
11 people were killed and 65 injured in the powerful bomb explosion at Gate No 5 of the High Court in New Delhi.
Police said explosives, suspected to be hidden inside a briefcase near the security counter at one of the main gates of the court complex, blasted at 10.15 am local time.
Police and witnesses of the blast took the injured to nearby hospitals, while the site was evacuated and cordoned off.
The death toll is expected to rise, as 15 of the injured were in a critical condition.
Most of the injured are admitted in Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohya hospital with shrapnel wounds.

The attackers targeted the High Court premises crowded with visitors waiting to get entry passes, reports say. Court business is usually heavy on Wednesday which is listed as a Public Interest Litationday when the visitors come to the court in large numbers.
India's Home Secretary R K Singh said the hands of a terrorist group is suspected in the second blast targeting the Delhi High Court in four months.
He said the "medium to high intensity" blast created a "deep crater" at the site of explosion.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is currently touring Bangladesh, has said that the country will not succumb to the "cowardly attack."
Union Home Minster P Chidambaram condemned the attack. In a statement in the parliament, he said that a 20-member NIA team has been entrusted with probing the attack. NIA and NSG have been deployed to the site of the blast.
Meanwhile, Indian Parliament unequivocally condemned the terrorist attack, and adjourned the proceedings till the government gathered facts and made a statement in both the Houses.
