Prodigy Solutions fraud: AP to order CID probe

Return to frontpage

The Andhra Pradesh Government will order a CB-CID (Crime Investigative Department) probe into the alleged fraud perpetrated by Prodigy Solutions. The company, which offered software development, business process outsourcing and market research solutions, reportedly collected deposits to the tune of Rs 50,000 from job seekers to absorb them into the company.
“I have discussed the issue with the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, and requested him to order into the fraud with CB-CID. He had agreed and we are expecting orders in three-four days,” Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for Information Technology, told Business Line.
“Not just this fraud. We have decided to set up a monitoring committee to keep tabs on such fly-by-night operators. We will take measures to protect the interests of employees,” he said.
A group of employees lodged a complaint with the Madhapur police a few days ago, asking them to take action against the Prodigy Solutions management who failed to give them salaries for a few months. The company officials were not accessible for comments.
The Minister himself was in the dock after the fraud hit headlines as only recently he had inaugurated Prodigy's facilities at Cyber Towers and Warangal. The company opened its facility early this year at Cyber Towers, which was at the hub of Hyderabad's IT industry. The Minister, however, refuted the charges and said that he had got nothing to do with the company. “I wanted to encourage investments in the IT sector,” he said.
