India invites foreign hand for help in Delhi High Court blast probe

India Today

The email sent from Kishtwar was a 'prank'.

With no breakthrough in sight, the Indian investigating agencies are understood to have established contact with their counterparts in the US and Southeast Asia, in their probe into Wednesday'sDelhi High Court blast.
The perpetrators of September 7 strike have not left any significant trail behind and it has prompted the Indian security establishment to seek support from foreign intelligence agencies with regard to any relevant communication from intelligence intercepts.
Sources said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has got in touch with the US spy agencies to provide leads into the attack. Indian intelligence and security agencies have also been working closely with their counterparts in Southeast Asia including those in Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Security agencies of India and Bangladesh have also worked closely since Sheikh Hasina has returned to power in Dhaka. This has helped to bust the Karachi Project besides deportation of ULFA leaders. According to sources, the Indian investigators are trying to ascertain whether the attack had any cross-border link or it was essentially a handiwork of a home-grown module.
The assistance of foreign agencies is also being sought to ascertain the origins of the terror emails, analysing data relating to signal intelligence, communication intercepts and movement of known terror masterminds and operatives during the last couple of weeks.
Meanwhile, an NIA team returned empty-handed to New Delhi fromJammuon Sunday after their pursuit of theemail, claiming responsibility for the blast, turned out to be a wild goose chase.
Sources said the team now believes that the email sent from a cyber cafe in Kishtwar on Wednesday was probably a prank.
It is pertinent to note here that the NIA team had no cyber crime expert in its ranks. The team had detained the owner of the cyber cafe, two of his accomplices and three students from Kishtwar for questioning. However, nothing came of it.
It had seized computers from the Global Cyber Cafe, from where the email was sent. The federal agency sleuths had also questioned two HuJI terrorists on Saturday while two persons are still under detention.
